PROFILE: Bola Yinka-Obebe

There are people you meet ‘for the first time’ and you will love to see again, Bola Yinka-Obebe is definitely one of such. Smart, focused and intelligent, She is a graduate of Economics from University of Ilorin.

Her petite size and unique sense of style brought about her interest in fashion so she took a course in design, pattern making and Garment construction at Ginani fashion school in Surulere, Lagos.

She moved to TAE as a designer/ pattern maker, and soon became the product line manager for the design house. A Perception Management/PR firm became the next stop - There she worked till February 2010.
Her label Marayah O is a fashion and lifestyle brand whose immediate focus is the creation of female ready-to-wear (RTW) clothing since 2010
Marayah O’s designs are eclectic, avant-garde, refreshing, comfortable and most importantly wearable. This also defines her audience - The free spirited, fun-loving, confident and happy woman.

She says it is important that the Marayah O woman is celebrated even beyond her looks.
In the nearest future, she and her team hopes to fully integrate the entire fashion and lifestyle range from clothing to accessories, homes and other lifestyle effects.

Debut Collection
Her first Collection was tagged ‘’The Street style ALPHA’’. She says it is simple, stylish, comfortable and wearable.
The collection was inspired by the idea that people live their lives mainly on the street. Nothing is ever fully achieved within the walls of our rooms only. The street is a major part of daily existence. Going to work, school, lunch/dinner dates, business meetings, hangouts etc all wouldn’t exist without the streets.
The collection is about being fashionable while living our lives.

She gives credit for the shoot to: Yinka Obebe (Art Direction), Photograpy (Yinka Obebe Photography), Onyinye Fafi Obi (Styling), Modupe Sorunke (Make-up), Mizzy B (Shoes)  .

THE HEADIES 2011

Award Ceremonies in Nigeria have become a ceremony of some sort and a lotta people have come to appreciate its existence. This is seen with the beautiful dresses, accessories and finesse by both ladies and gentlemen.
Anyways, the award in focus today is Headies also known as Hip Hop World Awards owned by Ayo Animashaun’s Smooth Promotions.
Over the years the Awards ceremony has grown bigger celebrating the Nigerian artiste, music producers, cinematographers and the likes of
Mode 9, Tuface, P-Square, D’Banj, Don Jazzy have been big winners.
We have also seen Darey, D’Banj & Tana, Dakore & Basket Mouth, Banky W & Kemi Adetiba, and recently eLDee the Don & Rita Dominic share the stage as hosts of the event.
Well to cut the long story short, this year’s ceremony was held at the Eko Hotel and Suites and trust me, people came out to represent.
The red carpet had a lotta celebs granting interviews, the paparazzi were put to good use-a few acts wore what you’d remember for a long time; Ice Prince for instance was decked in complete traditional attire agbada, Dencia wore white gown that reminds me of a beautiful bride…
I enjoyed all the performances. Need I say some of them were great and some ok; Waje came with all of her, Tiwa Savage ad-libbed and danced well, our very own afro juju master Sir Shina Peters was on point, choc boi MI rocked the stage, Sound Sultan used the stage wella running to and fro with his lepas and orobos (comedienne Princess and actress gbogbo bigz girls)… by the way I rocked with SSP- ACE is a classic I bet you will agree *wink
Before I stop typing, I would like to say the essence of this ceremony is to reward these creative people.
Three big winners of the night however are Tuface (artiste of the year), eLDee walked away with $10,000 for 'best conscious music of the year' (One Day)-the category was supported by Toyin Subair while the toughest category ‘Next rated’ saw E.M.E’s Wizkid smile home with the award and Hyundai Sonata Car attached to the category.
Finally, I’d share some of the pictures I took with a few celebs on the red carpet and also give you a comprehensive list of all the winners.
