THE WEDDING /WHAT’S WITH THE BOUQUET?

I’m sure when you saw the heading, you flipped a bit – More like what’s Lamii up to again o. Anyways, it was a busy weekend for me as I had to assume the role of a chiefo (CBM – Chief Bride’s Maid) at my friend’s wedding.

Walahi, it wasn’t an easy task o. Stick with me, lemme give you the gist:

Thursday, I left the office, straight to the SALON, then off to MY SISTER’S who had come in from IB, after that I went to block a friend for a small gift (don’t ask me what o _ Rhema Imehrion thanks by the way). By this time I was kinda tired but had to get going.

Up next was my move to the bride’s place (Lekki) since Friday was the engagement. Imagine the move from Yaba to Lekki… Sha, I got there and it was really amazing seeing the make-up chic (a friend from teen years), that made me realize the wedding was going to be sorta reunion.

Anyways, I assumed duty that night checking my tab for a few details, then relaxed my brain with my fave Deitrick Haddon Movie ‘’Blessed and Cursed” , at that time the make-up chic was on the bride’s spine – chasing her  to bed, seriously warning her not to touch her BB since she needed the rest – we want no eyes bags…

Long story short, Friday came, we moved to our hotel rooms, joined by the others- bride’s maids, family etc, then, we proceeded to the venue of the engagement... In a few hours, the event was over.  Trust me the job of a chiefo is not a very easy one so please think well before you agree to take up that position.

The D-DAY – It was one of those days you wake up and prolly wanna go back to bed but since I had already been warned, I respected myself… Being the last to bathe, I had to supervise and kinda scream down the house – pass down a few instructions... oh lest I forget, I prayed to catch the bouquet in as much as I hated going out for that ritual…

Fast forward to the wedding ceremony; there we were looking beautiful. As I stood with the trio (bride, groom, and bestman), my left knee started to cringe under the heel. In my mind, I wish the officiating minister could see and just say “sit please’ but mehn e no happen o. Na so we stand dia dey happy, dey sing.
Finally, came the chair and boi, what a relief it was… We sat for a few minutes as the good looking Voice of His Light (VOHL) choir rendered a special number; a few times I adjusted the bride’s outfit (the tail), dabbed her make-up, and held the bouquet (my dreeeeeeam bouquet).
Double fast forward, the wedding ceremony ended, we all went out for pictures which the best man and I took charge of, with the help of the programme booklet. After that session, we moved to the reception venue ( Yetunde’s Apartment) and fast forward again, I exchange my not-so-fine heels (yes I said it- sad I bought it with my money - mscheeew) for slips and work began.

…time to throw the bouquet: the bride had fun calling out spinsters and rolling the bouquet, pretending to throw… I almost gave up mehn but then I thought since I prayed and want it, then I should stay. STAY I did and BINGO as she threw it *finally* I stretched my hands, kinda oblivious to the other gurls that were behind me, i grabbed and there it was- IN MY HANDS (Thank God – answered prayer). Yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay!! I am the next bride… ok that’s what they say. But believe me, I believe it o.

For a moment, I had my few minutes of fame as photographers clicked away and the Mc, Arthur Ngube of Rhythm fm gave a small congrats speech. Was I elated! You can say that again…

@MTV BASE ALL STARS EVENT (April 13)

Sorry, this piece came ‘this late’, I’m sure you don’t want me to bore you with reasonssssss… pls read. Thanks

Indeed the world is becoming or should I say has become a global village. Alright, no slow mo, lemme just go straight to my story.  Meanwhile, the story is kinda long but please follow me *puppy face*- hope that worked *now smiling*

Here I am 11:53am, tired but have to put this out ‘cos it’s hot in my head… I had anticipated my Saturday was going to be hectic so ‘almost’ nothing caught me by surprise except the ANNOYING trip to Lekki Phase 1.
Annoying because my friend I had gone to see told me she was not home after I told her I was coming by. Honestly I was really pissed but had to let it go cause I couldn’t even lash out at her ‘anyways’ since it’s her wedding we are prepping for and of course I am her chiefo. Lemme give you a bit of my waka waka before I got to that stage…

I woke up around past 7, had girls’ talk/gist, planned the day with my friend and I ended up leaving the house around past 10am… Straight to Lecture (Surulere)> >Choir Practice (Ikoyi)>> Awoof Ride to Adeniji Adele, Lagos Island (to buy Ijebu garri with An Dee >> Park n Shop V.I An Dee again) that turned out to be a good trip cause I got free Fox Biscuit and Colgate Tooth Paste which I should have bought a while back but laziness and alaroro (stinginess –lol) got the best part of me hence the delay. Don’t call me ole or cheap o *whatever*… So u see that’s how I got to that annoying trip to Lekki Phase 1. By the way, Moji if u are reading this, I FORGIVE YOU cause I don’t have a choice.

Alright straight to the main event of the day MTV BASE ALL STARS EVENT… I had with me my ‘borrow- borrow’ laptop bag and in there was my mobile party outfit for the day.

Anyways, I got to the venue and *sad face*they had not started so I liased with a friend James Silas who advised I changed since I’m going to work on the Red Carpet and the event is yet to start. I yielded and finally looking fresh & ready to do shakara I got ready to work.

The press conference kicked off at exactly 8:30 and up came Ehis the new MTV VJ who came on with his set of well arranged white teeth and of course beautiful speech. He gave a lil intro about the event, then he went straight on to introduce the first set of panelists: handsome Alex Okosi *wink* Senior Vice President & Managing Director, Viacom International Media Networks (VIMN) Africa and Zozo the gentleman/rep from Kwazulu-Natal Province; that’s the company partnering with MTV to bring the all stars event to all of us *a round of applause ladies and gentlemen*.
12:43 am… I looked at the table to see if I still got water left in my bottle, nay, its finished. *shaking my head* I dare not get up cause if I do, its straight to bed…
*sigh*

Mr. Alex Okosi spoke about the essence of the MTV Base All Stars event and also shed more light on the past event which was held in Durban (South Africa), Nairobi (Kenya) and of course the one being held at the moment in Lagos (Nigeria).  Agreeing with Alex, Zozo spoke about the initiative as being part of an awareness campaign to profile Kwazulu-Natal as a “tush” *permit my English* tourist destination for culture and economic growth.
12:52am *yawn* oti re body mehn but I ghast finish this o…
Back to Ehis who carried all along well…

After the talk with Alex and Zozo, he introduced the 3 artistes repping Naija for the night: the newly married 2FACE IDIBIA– spotting white top, neatly slashed skinnies, black hat, black shade, black shoes and of course I couldn’t have missed out his dazzling silver wedding band…  neatly shaved ICEPRINCE ZAMANI who wore white Kaftan or is it Senagalese, black shade, Black Choks (he carried the outfit with such fantasti swag…shoutout bro)… dimpled cheek Davido with Blue Cap, expensive customized Gold OBO (Omo Baba Olowo)pendant, Peach & Grey Hooded T-Shirt, Blue Jeans and a catchy Addidas Slippers with black socks – for Press Conference o  *uhn! *shrug* when u are big, you are big o* I mean who cares what you wear as long as u come deliver- abi ke? And finally, out came Professor all the way from South Africa. By the way, it’s his first time in Naija and he says he’s enjoyed our jollof rice or was it fried rice he said… sorry I no remember, e no mata sef abi?

1:08am… I have to go to bed now. 1:09am *now typing and tryna calculate how many hours I have to slept… hoops sorry I mean sleep. -PAUSE… OK continue… done… thinking …If I go to bed now I’ll wake at 7…uhnnnnnn, not a bad one… So PAUSE again…off to bed… To be continued… should I proof read before I go???? Uhnnn …. NO
… 1:12am
… 1:13 saved to desktop/Minimise/Hibernate

*Eyes covered*
…Monday Morning 11:20am: I ended up leaving the story opened while I attend to a frend/do office beat (Sorry, no excuse is good enough) … Came back to shutdown>>> lecture at 5pm
Tuesday 10:37…
Finally, I get to sit at my desk without any distraction. Oh by the way, I just got the news of a colleague’s baby delivery – Congrats Damola Aji and wifey (please y’all should add Olamide to her numerous names o) *wink*.

Back to the MTV All Stars gist, I promise no more distraction…  Alex Okosi stated that there will be big event in Durban that will bring together artistes from different African countries, and such artistes will be voted for so please visit www.mtvbase.com if you’d like to be a part of that. This will also feature America’s Snoop Lion aka Snoop Dogg.

The press conference went on for a bit and journalists were given a chance to ask questions. Some of the Qs are:
·          Are the artistes going to have collabos ?
·         How is MTV Africa going to support female artistes? -Lola from OTV
·         Will the 3 acts performing tonight perform in Durban? Etc etc

After the press conference we moved on to the red carpet and it was a massive turnout- trust my Lagidi peeps, dem no dey dull Friday night.
Spotted quite a few familiar faces: Djs Caise and Sose who are also part of the night’s gig, Vyonne Vixen, Mo Easy, Gideon and Jibade of Tinsel, Zaina, oga Efe Omorogbe, etc etc

Shoutout to BHM(Black House Media) for always coming thru. *BIG HUG* and my new friend Mary of Business Day.

One of the questions I asked Alex Okosi is, are some of the journalists going to be a part of the Durban experience? Your guess is as good as mine. Keep your fingers crossed, I might just be heading to Durban in May.
Shoutout to BHM(Black House Media) for always coming thru *BIG HUG* and my new friend Mary of Business Day.

Ok. That’s it… Story done.
