THE WEDDING /WHAT’S WITH THE BOUQUET?

I’m sure when you saw the heading, you flipped a bit – More like what’s Lamii up to again o. Anyways, it was a busy weekend for me as I had to assume the role of a chiefo (CBM – Chief Bride’s Maid) at my friend’s wedding.

Walahi, it wasn’t an easy task o. Stick with me, lemme give you the gist:

Thursday, I left the office, straight to the SALON, then off to MY SISTER’S who had come in from IB, after that I went to block a friend for a small gift (don’t ask me what o _ Rhema Imehrion thanks by the way). By this time I was kinda tired but had to get going.

Up next was my move to the bride’s place (Lekki) since Friday was the engagement. Imagine the move from Yaba to Lekki… Sha, I got there and it was really amazing seeing the make-up chic (a friend from teen years), that made me realize the wedding was going to be sorta reunion.

Anyways, I assumed duty that night checking my tab for a few details, then relaxed my brain with my fave Deitrick Haddon Movie ‘’Blessed and Cursed” , at that time the make-up chic was on the bride’s spine – chasing her  to bed, seriously warning her not to touch her BB since she needed the rest – we want no eyes bags…

Long story short, Friday came, we moved to our hotel rooms, joined by the others- bride’s maids, family etc, then, we proceeded to the venue of the engagement... In a few hours, the event was over.  Trust me the job of a chiefo is not a very easy one so please think well before you agree to take up that position.

The D-DAY – It was one of those days you wake up and prolly wanna go back to bed but since I had already been warned, I respected myself… Being the last to bathe, I had to supervise and kinda scream down the house – pass down a few instructions... oh lest I forget, I prayed to catch the bouquet in as much as I hated going out for that ritual…

Fast forward to the wedding ceremony; there we were looking beautiful. As I stood with the trio (bride, groom, and bestman), my left knee started to cringe under the heel. In my mind, I wish the officiating minister could see and just say “sit please’ but mehn e no happen o. Na so we stand dia dey happy, dey sing.
Finally, came the chair and boi, what a relief it was… We sat for a few minutes as the good looking Voice of His Light (VOHL) choir rendered a special number; a few times I adjusted the bride’s outfit (the tail), dabbed her make-up, and held the bouquet (my dreeeeeeam bouquet).
Double fast forward, the wedding ceremony ended, we all went out for pictures which the best man and I took charge of, with the help of the programme booklet. After that session, we moved to the reception venue ( Yetunde’s Apartment) and fast forward again, I exchange my not-so-fine heels (yes I said it- sad I bought it with my money - mscheeew) for slips and work began.

…time to throw the bouquet: the bride had fun calling out spinsters and rolling the bouquet, pretending to throw… I almost gave up mehn but then I thought since I prayed and want it, then I should stay. STAY I did and BINGO as she threw it *finally* I stretched my hands, kinda oblivious to the other gurls that were behind me, i grabbed and there it was- IN MY HANDS (Thank God – answered prayer). Yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay!! I am the next bride… ok that’s what they say. But believe me, I believe it o.

For a moment, I had my few minutes of fame as photographers clicked away and the Mc, Arthur Ngube of Rhythm fm gave a small congrats speech. Was I elated! You can say that again…
