A TOAST TO MY CHILDHOOD

Finally! The D-Day it is -Gbolahan Sanni's wedding. Ok, before you flip outta your skin and ask me who Gholahan is, let me save you the trouble. He’s not an artiste or your popular Tv face but my childhood friend- there it is.

Gist is this piece is not about Gbolahan but was inspired by him – ok not exactly…his wedding inspired it.

First of my Pop took the exit to Baba God’s crib when I was quite young so MumC had to carry the load. It was really fun, challenging and of course fun again… I remember most especially the things we had and didn’t have but somehow they were provided.

Anyways, as I saw Gbolahan dance with his wife, that very act took me down memory lane…

Ilubirin Estate situated somewhere along Third Mainland Bridge was the place and it had become a family domain where everyone knew ‘almost ‘ what was up in each others’ crib – More like a tush face-me-i-face-you setting. erm.. Again, not exactly *wink.

I remember the Tennis Court, the big swimming pool we never used, the table tennis we created on the Well beside my house during one of dem holidays, bicycle riding, my brother Q’s bingo dogs that were all over the place creating some kinda sick scene, days of playing Atari, Nintendos (Super Mario bros to be precise), Ludo, and yes playing with Ken & Barbie and of course the basket ball court that had some other b-ballers coming into the estate to join their friends- that reminds me- it made my brother feel he could really dunk and he ended up creating a mini hoop on the corridor… short boi Keemy- lol* atleast u are a fine boy.

Such a long time and at the moment almost everyone is married with either a child or 2, some may even be expecting their first bundle of joy who knows (I said maybe because we all are positioned in different places now-some are still within the country while others are out and doing great…thanks to facebook info) while someone of us will be joining the flow soonest.

Also, some of the things I remember are Mrs. Ubakanma’s Cookies- yummy,  Moyo’s power bike- i‘m so sure most parents won’t forget that too as he went round the estate announcing his arrival almost every day- lol, Mr. Job (of blessed memory) Baba & Mama Friday’s groundnut, our annual Christmas Party and of course Mr. Erogbogbo who we all love dearly.

Back to Gbolahan’s wedding: I saw some of the faces I hadn’t seen in a long time including Mrs. Daniyan who asked the question ‘where is the ring’? I had a good time answering – coming soon. Yeah! COMING SOON.

Also, I had fun looking at some of those parents walk past. I knew some of them will prolly not remember me so I saved myself the ‘oh-my God! Is that you, you are so grown now…blah blah… talk.
Ok enough gist.

Special shout out to all dem my child hood peeps- in no particular order o: the Sannis, Erogbogbos, the 2 Jaiyesimis, Adeboyejos, Daniyans, Okuboyejos, Art-Alades, Domingos, Shotomiwas, Samuels, Olusogas, Odesolas, Akintoyes, Willougbhys, Oke-Lawals, Ojosipes, Taiwos, Somide, Ubakanmas, Emuzes, Badejos, Ladiju, Akinsemoyin, Gaspers and the list goes on and on…sorry if u read this and your name is missing. You guys made the world rock and of course I wasn’t close to everyone but I remember y’all and it makes a lotta sense ‘NOW’ having had an experience with y’all.
Me n d dress- lol

I look forward to seeing everyone repping in one place soonest- maybe we could just have Ilubirun Estate reunion where we can catch up on the good old times.

God bless us all more and more.

Meanwhile, thanks to Keme Musa for the beautiful black and pink dress I wore to Gbolahan’s. I know I paid for it but thanks all the same gurl (((HUG))).

<<< Cheers! L.O>>>
